(06/09/2011)
The West Virginia State Police have arrested Christine Wilson, 39, a Wirt County teacher-coach for embezzlement. Police say the woman served as treasurer of a school band boosters club.

The complaint says she took about $9,000.

Wilson was arrested May 6.

The criminal complaint says Wilson was treasurer for the Wirt County Band Boosters starting last July and held the post until February.

Investigating officer Sgt. C. E. Boring says he received information from the Wirt County Board of Education regarding discrepancies in the boosters' account.

"The band booster accounts were audited by Wirt County Board of Education Treasurer Karen S. Cummings," according to the complaint.

Wilson has been charged with embezzlement and released on $2,500 surety bond. A preliminary hearing is set for June 13 before Wirt County Magistrate C. David Roberts.

If convicted, Wilson faces a minimum of 10 years in prison.

Wilson is a teacher at the Wirt County Primary Center and also serves as the high school softball coach.
