STORM AND HIGH WIND SWEEPS ACROSS REGION - Power Outages Reported, Trees Downed

A severe thunderstorm bearing high winds swept through the region late Tuesday afternoon, downing trees and disrupting electric service to several thousand customers.

The National Weather Service said winds gusted to 50 miles per hour.

The power company reports 670 Calhoun residents are without power and 409 Roane County residents.

It was not learned what part of the county is without power.

Calhoun Control said trees had been reported down in the Stinson-Chloe area, while a number of other areas have trees and limbs in the highway.

Janet Siers who writes the Chloe News, said a large tree was uprooted in her yard and the top of a pine tree fell near her house.

Roane County is reporting a number of downed trees blocking highways.
