MARY ELLEN McCARTY - Spencer

Mary Ellen McCarty, 67, of Spencer, WV died May 18, 2002, at home after an extended illness.

She was born February 13, 1935, in Madison, WV daughter of Glenna M. Compton Prince of St. Albans and the late Willie S. Prince.

She was a retired teacher, having taught at Spencer High School and Spencer Primary Center in Roane County, Poca High School in Putnam County and schools in Kanawha County. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Marshall University, Huntington. She was a graduate of St. Albans High School. She was a member and past regent of the Kanawha Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Charleston.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Judge Charles E. McCarty of Spencer; son Sean E. McCarty of Newton, WV; brothers, Karl Prince of Springfield, MO, Bill Prince of Bolivia, NC; grandchildren, Holly R. and Nicholas McCarty.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Pastor John W. Ellison officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
