Taking time out to pray ...

A National Day of Prayer service was conducted Thursday in front of the Calhoun Courthouse in Grantsville.

Local clergy and parish members led prayer for the nation, state and county, in addition to emergency responders.

The event was sponsored by Minnie Hamilton Health System Chaplain's Association.

This year marked the 60th anniversary of the event with the theme "A Mighty Fortress is Our God."

President Harry S. Truman signed the special day into being in April 1952 with its first observance May 1st of that year.

All proceeds from food sales was given to the First Baptist Food Pantry.
