The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Flash Flood Watch in effect from 3 p.m. EDT this afternoon through late tonight, including Calhoun, Braxton, Clay, Gilmer, Jackson, Ritchie, Roane, and Wirt counties. Showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain will increase over the area this afternoon ahead of a strong cold front. With the soil already saturated from recent rains the potential for flash flooding has increased. The heaviest storms are expected later this afternoon through early tonight.
