A Grantsville policeman has completed training at the WV State Police Academy.

Nineteen-year-old Joey Garrett of Stumptown just completed the 145th Basic Police Training Class at the WV State Police Academy in Institute, a course that extended from January 3 to April 22.

Garrett, a 2010 graduate of Gilmer County High School, completed a two-year criminal justice program at the Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center.

Garrett, who has wanted to be a law enforcement officer since his childhood, will return to his position as a patrolman for the Grantsville Department.

Grantsville Police Chief, Jeff Starcher said, "He [Garrett] is the first police officer to complete the WVSPA for the Grantsville Department since I did on December 19, 2008."
