WIRT JERKED FROM THE JAWS OF DEATH - Three Year Levy Passes

A high voter turnout has approved a three-year operating levy to save Wirt County from financial default. The Wirt County Clerk's office reported 1,143 (68.8%) for the levy and 518 (31.19%) against.

The three-year levy will keep the county going for three more years.

Democrats have elected Roy Copen as County Commissioner, with 486 votes; Hershel Skinner, 304 and Bob Phillips, 134. Copen will face Republican Gary Bailey, with 465 votes, in the fall.

Voters elected three candidates to the Wirt County Board of Education, Mark Lowe, 931; Jim Rader, 878 and Shelia Dye, 815. Bob Snider received 702 votes and Joyce Moler had 555 votes
