Transcribed by Norma Knotts Shaffer from microfilm of the Calhoun Chronicle dated 2/8/1898.

Last Wednesday while the writer was sitting at his desk writing a line occasionally and meditating upon the movement of the wheels of the general government he was suddenly disturbed by what appeared to be some one slipping upon him.  But upon turning around we discovered that it was only "Bird" Bell in his bare feet and shirt sleeves.  He was some 300 yards from his home and said he was out for his health, and as the thermometer registered about 2 degrees below zero we could see where he was right.
