David F. Matthews, 56 - Fairmont

David F. Matthews, 56, of Fairmont, West Virginia, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011, at The Heritage Nursing Home, Bridgeport WV.

He was born in Spencer WV, February 21, 1955, a son of the late William H. and Jean Steber Matthews.

He is survived by his brother, William F. "Biff" Matthews and his wife, Terre of Chocowinity NC; two sisters, Willa J. Brand and her husband, Tom, of Bridgeport and Lee Ann Brannen and her husband, Charlie, of St. Albans WV; five nieces and nephews and six great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was a graduate of Spencer High School, Marshall University, and received his Masters of Library Science from the University of Kentucky. David was a 20-year member of the faculty of Fairmont State University, where he was the librarian. He was also a contributor to the West Virginia Encyclopedia.

A celebration of David's life will be held at noon Sunday, April 10, at the First Baptist Church, 338 Main St., Spencer, with Dr. Bill Thomas officiating, immediately following the morning service. A meal will follow at the church for family and friends.

Interment will be in Spencer Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Burnside Funeral Home, Bridgeport, and the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer.
