BIM STICKS HIS NECK OUT, BUT NOT MUCH - Candidates Talk With Each Other At Bean Dinner

(05/13/2002)
BIM'S POLITICAL PROGNOSTICATION May, 2002 - Bim the Barber said he's pretty much at a loss predicting the winners in the County Commission race, where four candidates are trying for the six-year post. "It could be whose got the biggest family," he said.

Lynn Gilbert made news by giving her money away, if elected, and the other three are running on various platforms. Whited and Sampson are in the running and "The number of votes Mr. Shock gets, could be a shock." Bim said. "The commission race could be decided by a few votes."

"The excitement about the election...well, there hasn't been much," he said.

"I will make a 100% prediction that Rick Postalwait will get the nod." Postalwait has no opposition.

Bim also predicted Fitzwater, Frederick and Holbert will be elected to school board seats. "Harris could come in, but he hasn't been campaigning."

Sunday hunting will not be approved by the voters, but they will approve the library levy, according to Bim.

The candidates turned out at a "Meet your Candidate" bean dinner Saturday afternoon at Calhoun County Park. They pretty much talked to each other, with few voters showing up.

Delegate Bill Stemple did not attend.

Unlike old time politics of years ago, the candidates were cordial and friendly. Candidate Steve Whited and his wife brought their young children and Lynn Gilbert and her husband Jim Morris helped fix the food for the meal. Shock and Sampson socialized with the group.

Magistrate Court Candidate Rick Postalwait handed out pens and asked for support, even though he had no competition.

Former Dem chairperson Vonda Gunn turned up to wish the Democrats well.

Several members of the county executive committee attended, and helped with the event.
