James William "Jim" Greathouse, 80 - Spencer

James William "Jim" Greathouse, 80, of Spencer, West Virginia, died Monday, March 28, 2011 in Roane General Hospital, Spencer, after an extended illness.

He was born March 10, 1931 in Roane County, a son of the late Augustus Lee and Hannah Wilson Greathouse Gordon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Delbert Gordon; two children, Shirley and Orland Greathouse; two brothers, Orland and Wyatt Greathouse; seven sisters, Nellie Frances Greathouse, Addie Greathouse, Betty Nichols, Sarah Miller, Ruth Reynolds, Amy Deel and Shirley Miller.

Jim was a retired WVDOH employee with 20 years of service. He was also a logger and a member of the Flat Fork Baptist Church, Looneyville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Gatha Marie Blosser Greathouse; two daughters, Linda Smith of Clover and Patsy Collins of Spencer; two sons, Timothy Greathouse of Spencer and William J. "Billy" Greathouse of Looneyville; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Friday, April 1 at 2:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Justin S. Simmons officiating. Burial will be in the Young Cemetery, Linden.

Friends may call Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
