MAN AND SON RESCUED IN WIRT AFTER GETTING LOST

(03/14/2011)
A man and his five-year-old son got lost on Goose Creek Saturday, according to Wirt County Sheriff D. Keith Wilson. Jr.

Wirt responders went to the area near the Wood-Ritchie line following a 911 call.

Sheriff Wilson said a man and his five-year-old son were not in Goose Creek when responders arrived, but were on the creek's bank.

He said a pickup truck the man was driving got stuck in the mud on Goose Creek Road, indicating he and his son got out of the truck, crossed the creek, walked down the bank, and then got lost.

Wilson said they had been there for about five hours.

About an hour and a half after responders got the call, they were able to get to them in a rescue boat. They were taken to the hospital and later released.

Police have not released their names.
