Roland J. "Bud" Godfrey - Richmond, Virginia

Roland J. "Bud," Godfrey, passed away peacefully March 3, 2011 in Richmond, Virginia at the age of 85.

He was born on July 23, 1925 in Calhoun County West Virginia.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Patricia l. Godfrey; two sons, John P. Godfrey and Charles W. Godfrey (Nancy), both of Richmond; daughter, Deborah A. "Debbie" Godfrey of Wilmington, North Carolina.; four grandchildren, Stefanie G. Glatz, William R. Godfrey, Sarah W. Godfrey and John C. Godfrey; two brothers, Donald Godfrey (Barbara) of Weston, West Virginia and Ronald Godfrey (Loretta) of Mount Vernon, Ohio; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Calhoun County High School in 1942, Bud went to work for Martin Aircraft in Baltimore, Maryland. The next year he entered into the military service and fought with the 278th Combat Engineers in the European Theater, achieving the rank of sergeant. After World War II, he worked in various capacities in the oil and gas industry until accepting a position with Commonwealth Natural Gas and settling permanently in Richmond in 1956.

Bud was superintendent of pipelines and transmissions with Columbia (formerly Commonwealth) Natural Gas when he retired in 1990. He was also active for many years in Tuckahoe Little League where he made many friends and touched many lives as a manager, coach and league official. Bud was a 50-year member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge #40.

Funeral services were be held Tuesday, March 8 followed by interment at Westhampton Memorial Park.
