Mason Hildreth started shooting competition in 2009 at the age of 10 and has won the Junior State and National Championship in 2009 and 2010.

The matches are 1000-yard International Benchrest and are held in Fairmont and Buckhannon.

Hildreth shoots five shots at 1000 yard. In July, 2010 he shot a "screamer" of 3.1 inch, which was a five shot group at 1000 yards. A "screamer" is anything smaller than a 4 inch group.

He uses a 6x47 Lapua, Remington 700 action, Douglas barrel - Shehane Tracker stock and Nightforce scope.

Mason shoots with older youth and men, some who have been shooting for several years, and many being top shooters.

He also shoots with his grandfather John Hildreth of Spencer, who held the world's record in 2001.

Mason is the son of Tony Hildreth of Spencer and Heather McCormick of New Haven. His is the grandson of John and Judy Hildreth and Bob and Anna Tucker of Spencer.

Mason is an honor roll student at New Haven Elementary. His goal is to attend WVU, where he would like to become a member of the shooting team.

He enjoys basketball, hunting, fishing and video games, and attends the Advent Christian Church in Spencer.
