More outbreaks of Herpes Gladitorium have been reported in several WV counties, said the State Department of Health and Human Resources Wednesday.

They say they are expecting an increase in the number of wrestlers or students who have contracted the disease.

The agency says it is investigating the outbreaks, but because of confidentially regulations the counties or schools will not be identified.

School systems, because of the confidentially rules, have not issued a general alert to parents, although high-risk wrestlers who recently participated is state tournaments are carefully being monitored.

The original outbreak followed state wrestling tournaments, affecting five wrestlers in one school.

While county school systems have declined to acknowledge the outbreaks, Roane County wrestling coach Wayne Jarvis said no members of the Roane County High School squad have been diagnosed with the disease, according to Spencer Newspapers.

School systems say they are taking numerous precautions against the transmission of the disease, while not publicly acknowledging the problem.

The WV Department of Education or state health agencies have yet to release the number of students affected.
