BURNING SPRINGS PARK GETS NEW GRANT - $96,000 Will Be Used For Development

(05/09/2002)
Oil and gas curator David McKain is gratified the Rathbone Oil Well Historic Park is getting some more financial help. A $96,000 federal grant will help complete more projects at the fledgling Burning Springs park along the Little Kanawha.

The new money comes from the National Scenic Byways Discretionary Fund.

The site of the famous Rathbone well is being developed by the Oil and Gas Museum of Parkersburg. A cabin is being remodeled for a museum and early drilling equipment will be displayed around the park. The actual well has been placed back in operation.

McKain said the park could be opened for visitors this summer.
