LITTLE KANAWHA FARM AGENCY BEING 'ZEROED OUT'

(03/07/2011)
A longtime farm and rural community development group is being 'zeroed out' by multi-billion dollar budget cuts in the US House of Representatives.

The small budgeted Little Kanawha Resource Conservation and Development Council, which serves Wood, Wirt, Ritchie, Roane, Calhoun, Pleasants, Tyler, Wetzel and Jackson Counties has been targeted for elimination.

The RC&D mission has been to encourage and improve the capability of volunteer, local elected and civic leaders to plan and carry out projects for resource conservation and community development.

Such activities have lead to sustainable communities, prudent land use and the sound management and conservation of natural resources.

The agencies programs over the years have been put forward in regional counties by volunteers.

The USDA Secretary of Agriculture designated 375 RC&D Areas in the USA.

Other long-time regional and state agencies that have served the Mid-Ohio Valley are facing cuts.
