MAN DIES AFTER STRUGGLE OVER PISTOL - Michael "Chad" Franlin, 24, of Iager was pronounced dead yesterday after a pistol was accidentally fired during a struggle, according to police.

He had been involved in a struggle for a pistol with another individual on Sandy Huff Branch Road, the pistol discharged, striking him.

Police are investigating the shooting.

MAN ATTACKS RELATIVES - A Wheeling man is accused of attempted murder after he stabbed a family member and tried to fire a gun at two relatives yesterday.

Chad Hinton, 22, is in Northern Regional Jail.

Police said the family had already separated the victim and the suspect into two different rooms of the house when they arrived.

Hinton is being charged with malicious assault in connection with a woman's stabbing and two counts of attempted murder.

"He pointed a loaded gun at both relatives, pulled the trigger and the gun misfired," police said.

SHOTS FIRED - Shots rang out in the Kanawha Valley, when a man fired several rounds into an Institute home.

Police say a man went up to the house on Academy Drive Sunday afternoon, fired several shots and took off.

No one was injured.

Police are trying to ID the shooter.
