A federal jury convicted a Spencer man yesterday on charges that he conspired to possess, make and pass counterfeit money, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Roger L. Atkinson II, 37, passed a fake $50 bill and gave another fake bill at the Spencer Livestock Market, and gave a fake $50 bill to an associate, according to evidence during a three-day trial.

A press release says Lawrence E. Holbrook previously pleaded guilty for his role in the counterfeit scheme.

Both men are scheduled to be sentenced May 4 by U.S. District Judge Thomas E. Johnston.
