SPENCER VENEER FACES POSSIBLE FINES BY OSHA $123,000 - Described "A Significant Case"

(05/06/2002)
Spencer Veneer was cited for safety violations Friday by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, in what is considered to be a "significant case." The company was charged with 13 work safety violations.

A Department of Labor spokesperson said the fines resulted from an on-site investigation in November, 2001. They are not the first violations issued to the Spencer company.

The company was fined $5000 in 2001 after a former Calhoun County man fell from a deck and died. A 2000 inspection resulted in $57,000 in fines.

The company was cited last week for willful violations, resulting in a possible fine of $70,000, seven serious violations with a possible fine of $23,000, three repeat violations with a possible fine of $30,000, plus what appears to be a "write-up" for a minor offense.
