Dr. Joseph Gilberto Vazquez, 80 - Gainesville, Georgia, formerly of Grantsville

Dr. Joseph Gilberto Vazquez of Gainesville, Georgia was born August 4, 1930 in New York, NY to the late Jose Maria Vazquez-Alvarez and Juana Gonzales.

He received his BS degree from the University of Puerto Rico and his MD from the School of Medicine Puerto Rico in the first graduating class at the age of 23. He was a charter fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He practiced in rural West Virginia and Blakely, Georgia until his retirement in 1999. He devoted his life to serving the less fortunate. Dr. Vazquez served in the United States Armed Forces 1956 to 1958.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Bernadene Rowh Vazquez; four daughters, Sandra (Richard) Savage and Enid Frank of Colombus OH, Valarie Delaporte of Sanford FL, Veronica (Kevin) Bennett of Gainesville; three sons, Eric Vazquez of Columbus OH, Joseph Anthony Vazquez and Andrew Lee Vazquez both of Atlanta GA; one sister, Gloria Edrich of Las Vegas NV. He was blessed with ten grandchildren whom he deeply loved, Jacob, Will, Aidan, Michael, Timothy, Elizabeth, Christina, Delaney, Avery, and Valarie Malone.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Luis Vazquez of Utuado, Puerto Rico.

Celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 5 at 6 p.m. at the home of Bob and Ashley Collier, 6670 Old Lucille Road, Blakely GA. Memorial service 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 6 at Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home, Blakely GA.
