A Braxton County woman was arrested last week after she allegedly took money from three accounts at Calhoun Banks in Glenville.

Florence Parker, 27, of Gassaway, is facing three counts of embezzlement and 29 counts of falsifying accounts, according to the WV State Police.

Parker, according to a criminal complaint, confessed to the crimes, following a three month investigation.

The investigation started after a Calhoun Bank customer reported he thought he was being shorted when he made deposits from a vending machine business.

An employee of the complainant said, "Every-time someone else (other than the accused) counted the deposit ... the count would come up correct."

Calhoun Banks and police began an investigation of the matter and discovered the businessman's deposits were off.

On December 11, 2010, Parker confessed to police she did steal money from Jim Ball's deposits, explaining the process she used, recording a lesser amount of money on a deposit slip, says the criminal complaint.

Parker also confessed she stole from two other accounts, Doug Cottrill's Laundromat and John Brown's Self-Suds, located in Glenville.

A bank audit said that Cottrill's account was missing $1,190, Brown's account was missing $156 and Ball's account was missing $1,902, according to the complaint.

The complaint indicates Parker took a total of about $3,248.

She was arraigned in Gilmer County Magistrate Court and was released on bond.
