UPDATED: CLAY MAN TRIES TO HIRE STATE POLICEMEN TO KILL FORMER PARTNER

(01/21/2011)
A Clay County has been arrested over a murder-for-hire scheme and is being held in Central Regional Jail with bond set at $500,000.

Brent Boggs, 53 (pictured left) of Big Otter Highway near Ivydale, attempted to hire two State Policemen, working undercover, to allegedly kill a former business partner, according to the criminal complaint.

Police did not identify the partner, but did say he was a resident of Kanawha County.

The criminal complaint, obtained Thursday morning by the Herald, indicates Boggs was recorded attempting to hire Cpl. L. J. Deskins and Cpl. B. L. Keefer to kill his former business partner.

The complaint indicates Boggs gave the undercover officers a Pontiac Grand Prix for up front payment, and was to be given $5,000 when the job was finished.

Boggs was arrested yesterday at his home in the Big Otter area and was arraigned in Clay Magistrate Court Thursday.

State Police said they have been investigating the murder-for-hire case for several weeks.

Sources said Boggs, a one-time schoolteacher, had been engaged in several small businesses, including a car lot, rental property and selling Christmas trees.
