The Creston News January, 10, 2011

Jimmy & Wanda Tucker hopped into their chariot & headed for quality time with the flamingos, pelicans & other denzions of sunny Florida but he started having problems and down near Beckely he took a bad spell and Wanda had to call 911. He has been in a Beckely hospital since then & they did determine that he didn't have a stroke but that he would have to go to rehab.

Connie Boggs, the mail carrier who takes the mail up Little Creek, over to Cremo and back down the Richardsonville road, among other places, is spending some 'quality time' in a Parkersburg hospital.

Betty Rozella Elliott, age 71, of Smithville passed away December 30. She was born in Creston, the daughter of Russell & Nellie Woodring.

With all the sickness going around healthcare has been quite a topic of discussion. Princess Pelousey said the other day that even if all Americans had health care that thy liked the government would still have had to take it over, this apparently in response to various court & legislative moves to set aside Obamacare. Recently it was noted that because of the new law, 45 new hospitals that were on the drawing boards or in various stages of construction were canceled because they are prohibited under the new regime as they would compete against those hospitals that made a secret deal with 'the great leader'. Real reforms would get rid of the government sponsored use of "medical codes" that enrich a former medical association and the CONs (Certificates of Need) that assure monopolies cannot be broken.

With the increase in gasoline prices and predictions of $5 gasoline within the near future the so called alternative cars are being talked about. The "electric cars" are actually cars that are fueled with coal since coal is the major source to generate electricity. Recent figures reveal that last month 250 Obamamobiles or Volts were sold nationwide and in two weeks there were 10 of the Leaf automobiles sold to customers who, apparently, were not breaking down the doors to get the " wonderful" new fangled chariots so championed by those who preach ecology but fly around the globe in private jets and are than taken to their destinations in limousines.

The Big Eared One signed the "Food Safety Bill" which, apparently, gives Big Brother control of all food produced in America to be sure we have safe food". No doubt the "new eggs" will come from 'sanitary chickens' Many feel that the intent is to eliminate local production of wholesome food for the benefit of Chinese & Mexican outfits, both of whom, no doubt, have highly educated farm laborers and where "night soil" is never used on food products, especially those such as lettuce, radishes, strawberries, etc. and other things that are not pressure cooked before being eaten. Some time back the communist Chinese government said that the fish, shrimp, etc that were sold to American consumers "weren't grown in sewage lagoons" and surely, everyone knows, good communists don't lie.

It was reported that Chesapeake is leasing town lots in Brooke County and paying $5,000/acre and a new report just came out pointing out the significance of the Marcellus shale that underlies almost all of West Virginia in the new energy world which will make America an exporter rather than an importer of hydrocarbons. In addition to the Marcellus, most of West Virginia is also underlain with the Huron, a very thick formation and the Utica shale, a formation that has been important in Canada. Many Huron horizontal wells have been drilled in West Virginia including some in Jackson and Roane Counties.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude oil rose to $84.75/bbl. Talk in the national media is that "oil is going to $100/bbl" and as inflation marches on the price will obviously go up to reflect, on the world scene the diminished value of America's currency. One can hope that the new crew in the U. S. Congress takes drastic steps to stabilize the currency and cut wasteful government spending, keeping able bodied men who choose not to work, providing "benefits" to illegal aliens, providing subsidies to rum distillers, more subsidies to the flim flam men who run "wind farms" and make corn likker to put into automobiles & so on and on and on.
