CAIN'S OLD-TIME CATTLE DRIVE RECALLS EARLIER TIMES

The annual Cain Cattle Drive along the Little Kanawha (Photos by Dr. Richard Cain) Cain's old-time cattle drive drew about a dozen farmhands and die-hard folks, driving about 130 Herefords from one farm to another. Well-known Calhoun farmer and veterinarian Joe Cain said it is a throw back to what was once a frequent occurrence The drive started Saturday at the old Virgil Riggs farm to the former Joe Riggs farm between the old Rogers and Barr farms (across the river from old Milton Cain Farm), now the Francis Cain farm, eventually arriving at the old Criss Farm. Lots of "olds," remembered those who once owned the land along the Little Kanawha River.
