PROPOSED LAW COULD STRIP PARENTS OF DRIVERS LICENSE - Failure To Send Children To School

(01/14/2011)
Parents could lose their drivers licenses if their kids miss too many days of school under a newly proposed law before state legislators.

Sen. Erik Wells (D-Kanawha) said he would introduce a bill during the upcoming legislative session that would strip parents of their licenses if their child or children rack up 10 unexcused absences from school.

Wells said there are adults who don't value education and therefore don't see a need to have their children go to school.

Wells said the attitude is a form of neglect.

He acknowledged the law would likely be challenged in court.
