Hello from Beason!

Kathy has returned from being AWOL since May. I have had so much on my plate of life. I think someone kept adding more to my plate while I wasn't looking. But, I am glad to be back to the drawing board.

First and foremost, our condolences to the Horner and Yoak families for their losses. If there is anything we can do to help you through this time, please don't hesitate.

Ritchie County High School band is sponsoring a BBQ Lunch on Friday, July 26th. Lunches will include Pork BBQ sandwich, chips and cookies. The cost is $7 and delivery will be available or you can pick up at the school between 11am and noon. Please make your advance orders by calling 834-5007 or 483-9299. Please help our band kids put on a fabulous halftime show.

Little League ended for the season finally. The kids did well and we are very proud of them for their efforts this season. Avery spent a good deal of time on the mound this year. I am really glad that he got to do that. He works very hard all year round to be the best he can be. I would like to personally thank Preston & Kelly Jones, Greg Davis, Dave McKinney, Mikey and Deanna West for all their dedication to the kids. I can't wait until we do it again next year.

Pam Ward and I took a short run to Myrtle Beach in June. It was Pam's first trip to the beach. There is nothing comparable to seeing the ocean for the first time. We also did a little shopping and Ihopping and shell searching. The weather was pretty good considering Tropical Storm Andrea was trying to ruin our spirits. All in all, we had a very good time and I am grateful we got to go. I hope we can make it an annual girls' trip.

Brian, Ethan, Avery and I took a trip to Tennessee over the 4th of July. We did the touristy thing and took in Nashville and Gatlinburg. I loved Nashville. We did the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Studio B Tour. We visited the Johnny Cash Museum. I totally recommend Nashville if you've never been there before. Gatlinburg really surprised me. I didn't realize it had gotten so overrun with touristy stuff. So, we kind of had mixed feelings about it. It didn't have that "homey" feeling like it did years ago. We took in a Tennessee Smokies game and had a blast in the pouring rain. I don't think they ever cancel a game. So, if you get tickets and think it's going to get rained out, it won't. Trust me on this.

The coolest part of the trip was the black bears we got to see on the walking trail to Laurel Falls. I nearly had a stroke while walking the trails, but, the bears were totally worth it. I was really happy that there was a Park Ranger type person around that day. If the bears had decided they wanted lunch, he was going before me.

Our family lost my Uncle Ray to cancer in June. He was such a strong man with such an incredible life. He amazed me by how many times he walked away from things that would have killed most men. I swear I thought he had 9 lives. Reverend Carroll McCauley did most of his service and kept it personal and light. I was so glad that he was able to perform the service. Ray was taken to the cemetery by his chariot (Zetor tractor) accompanied by his furry pal. He would have loved the way he was honored. Ray was a good man and he will be sorely missed by family, friends and everyone whom knew him. I do want to thank my cousin, Kaye Yoak, for being there when he needed you and helping him through it. We all wish we could be like you. Please know you are loved.

Ethan got his old truck on the road. He loves that thing with his whole heart and soul. A big thank you to Uncle Mike for letting us purchase the truck.
