UPDATE: BIG BEND WOMAN STRUCK BY VEHICLE

UPDATE - Charleston Area Medical Center said Monday night that Karen Pickering, struck by a vehicle at Big Bend Sunday afternoon, has been released from the hospital. 12/20/2010 - A 44-year-old Big Bend woman was struck by a vehicle about 2 p.m. Sunday, sending her to Minnie Hamilton Health System. Karen Pickering reportedly suffered injuries to her lower extremities, and was later life-flighted to a Charleston hospital. Charleston Area Medical Center reported Sunday night she is under evaluation. Pickering was in the middle of Route 5 near Holbert's Store when emergency personnel arrived, she was covered with blankets and being assisted by neighbors. Woman collapsed near centerline of Route 5 after being struck Neighbors at the scene said they had earlier expressed fear that the woman would be struck, reportedly because of a tendency to be walking on the highway. One report said the driver of the vehicle was traveling a moderate speed. The WV State Police are investigating. In another incident Calhoun EMS transported a 17-year-old male to Minnie Hamilton Health System from Steer Creek, Sunday, who had ingested multiple over-the-counter medications.
