Christmas project helps 163 Calhoun kids

Nearly 80 families are participating in the Family Resource Network's annual Christmas Connection, a year round effort that provides toys, food baskets, Christmas decorations and wrapping.

This year 163 children will be recipients of three toys each, according to Jean Simers, FRN coordinator.

Twenty one additional families will receive food baskets only.

Volunteer effort makes a difference

"The Christmas Connection raises money all year long for this event through Basket Bingo, Jail 'n' Bail, road blocks, etc. This year over $11,420.00 was spent to purchase toys for the families," said Simers.

Simers said the project requires a lot of volunteer work.

"We're really grateful for the folks who shine, help raise the money and show up to deliver the toys to community kids," she said.
