Paul D. Marks, 65 - Parkersburg

Paul D. Marks, 65, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, formerly of Sand Fork WV passed from this life to his heavenly home at 12:30 a.m., Dec. 13, 2010 surrounded by family and friends at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg following a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Paul was born on June 1, 1945 at Sand Fork the son of the late Toy D. and Effie Matthews Marks. On October 30, 1965 he married Brenda King Marks who survives at their Parkersburg home. Paul is also survived by one daughter, Karen (Danny) Frashure and one grandson, Tristan Zawatsky all of Washington WV. Other survivors include one sister, Mildred (Richard) Burke of Sand Fork; one brother, Harry (Vanessa) Marks of Wayne WV; one sister-in-law, Beverly Marks of Joe's Run and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Norma Marks and one brother, Harold Marks.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He lived for his family and adored his grandson, Tristan. His greatest joy was spending time with him and watching him grow and develop. He delighted in each new milestone he achieved and telling of his every accomplishment. Tristan was the light of his life.

Paul's work career included 3 years at FMC in Charleston. He retired from Cecil I. Walker Machinery of Parkersburg with 30 years of service. Paul loved working and was a perfectionist at whatever he did.

Paul attended Sand Fork High School and Sand Fork Baptist Church in his youth and was a Baptist by faith. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time at the Marks Farm (Shady Creek Farm) at Sand Fork which other than his own home was the greatest place on earth to him. At times when hunting there he loved to go into the woods and enjoy God's creations. Upon retirement when his physical activities were limited he developed an interest in cooking and took great pride in his culinary skills.

Some of Paul's other interests were attending professional bull riding events, photography, travel, spontaneous ventures and working on home projects.

He always felt great responsibility for the well-being of his family. They were the focus of his life. He loved them dearly. Paul will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Sand Fork Baptist Church in Sand Fork WV on Wednesday, December 15. Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 16 at Sand Fork Baptist Church, Sand Fork. Burial will follow in the Harmony Baptist Cemetery, Sand Fork WV. Pastor Bryan Groves will conduct the services.
