Delbert O. Paxton, 87 - Parkersburg

Delbert O. Paxton, 87, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, passed away December 6, 2010 in the St. Joseph's Hospital, from ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

He was born November 21, 1923, at Kettle, Roane County, a son of the late Amos and Nettie Dobbins Paxton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Kermit, Otmer, Glennis "Jim", Elbert and Lyle Paxton; two sisters, Hazel Marks and Georgia Hardman. He was survived by a brother, Kenneth Paxton, who died December 7, 2010.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Helen Elmore Paxton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bernard E. and Helen Paxton of Parkersburg and William Ray and Cynthia Paxton of Charleston; one daughter and son-in-law, Ruby E. and Bill Dowler of Washington, WV; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; one brother, Charles Paxton; one sister, Lillian "Nina" Moore both of Roane County.

Delbert was an Army veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart recipient. He was a farmer and then worked at American Viscose until it closed and then retired from the Bureau of Public Debt, Parkersburg. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

Friends may visit from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Lyle Paxton Cemetery, Paxton Ridge, Walton. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home Friday at 1:00 p.m.
