Seventeen year old Sarah Lane of Arnoldsburg captured her first WV State Titles, Saturday, November 13 at the 2010 National Baton Twirling Association WV State Championships, held in Ripley.

Sarah won the WV State Queen Modeling competition in the ages 16 and over division. The title was not broken down into beginner, intermediate, or advanced divisions, everyone competed against each other, making this an advanced win. She also won first place in the Open Modeling competition, where girls from other states were eligible. She won first place in all her novice events, including WV State Fancy Best Appearing, modeling in her baton outfit; first place in WV State Basic Strutting, first place in WV State show routine, and first place in WV State One Baton Solo Twirling.

Besides the trophies shown, Sarah was awarded three gold medallions for her novice wins. At the end of the day she was awarded the High Point trophy for the most state wins throughout the day.

Sarah is in the eleventh grade at Calhoun High School, where she is a feature twirler with the band. She is an honor student and is taking advanced classes, and doing quite well. She has been a member of the Fantasy Twirlers marching group, under the direction of Tracy Ward, from Spencer for the past five years.

Although Sarah has competed with the group in team events, she has never competed in solo competition, with the exception of her show routine. She has only been taking private instructions for about a month, and was able to model, strut, and twirl in solo competition in that short time.

Sarah's proud parents are Maxine and Milton Lane of Arnoldsburg. Sarah also has a sister, Amber. Lorraine Bailey of Orma, Sarah's coach is thrilled with her state titles and hopes to see Sarah win a lot more.
