Early morning fire destroyed Alderman residence Monday

UPDATE: The Herald received several inquiries regarding the status of Rick Alderman's well-known dog companion Bob. Bob and Rick's other animals escaped the house without injury, with their owners.

Fire destroyed the residence of contractor Rick Alderman located on Altizer Road Monday morning.

Alderman called 911 before 7 a.m. after he discovered a fire he said was ignited from a hot water heater.

A short time later, Alderman advised 911 the fire was out, but discovered later it had spread into the wall or ceiling space of the dwelling.

He then called 911 again, reporting fire coming from around the roof.

When the Arnoldsburg and Grantsville VFDs arrived, the house was fully engulfed. The Spencer-Roane VFD dispatched a tanker to the blaze.

Alderman said he got a handful of clothes out of the dwelling, with everything else being lost in the blaze.

His nearby shop did not catch on fire.

The Alderman residence was located about three miles from Arnoldsburg.
