LADY RED DEVILS FALL SHORT IN STATE TOURNEY

The Calhoun High School Lady Red Devils fell to the Wirt Lady Tigers on Friday afternoon at the Charleston Civic Center in the first round of the Class A West Virginia State Tournament.

Calhoun raced out to win the first set 25-19 only to be defeated in the second 23-25. Calhoun won the third 25-11 to be defeated in the fourth 20-25 and ultimately in the fifth 13-15. The loss ended the season for the Lady Red Devils with a school best 34-17 record.

Rochelle Gerwig led the team in service points with 18 points, 4 aces; she was followed by Ashley Houchin 16 points, 4 aces; Amber Wilford 11 points, 4 aces; Stephanie Hall 7, 3 aces; Karissa Reip 6 points, 1 ace; and Jordan Mace 4 points, 2 aces.

Setting: Houchin 118/119, 33 assists. Hitting: Wilford 40/47, 17 kills; Gerwig 28/29, 5 kills; Reip 15/17, 3 kills; Mace 14/16, 4 kills; Samantha Church 9/10, 4 kills.

Blocks: Wilford 4, Houchin 3, Mace 3, Reip 2.
