Six ladies from Calhoun County attended the Breast Cancer Awareness Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon sponsored by the Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program (BCCSP) at Flatwoods November 9.

The group took with them two of the cancer memorial quilts that are on perpetual display at the Calhoun County Library along with all three of the binders that tell the story of every quilt block and the individual they represent.

The quilts contain 147 squares in memory of individuals from Calhoun County that have died from the dreaded disease. Jean Simers spoke to the group of approximately 180 about the quilts and about her experience as a two time breast cancer survivor.
