(11/13/2010)
A 16-year-old Nicut boy received serious 3rd degree burns from a gasoline fire Saturday morning, while he was involved in cutting firewood.

The youth was life-flighted from the Upper West Fork Park to the Cabell Huntington Hospital Burn Intensive Care Unit. Sources say he has now been sent to a burn center in Cincinatti, OH.

He reportedly suffered burns to his back, lower body and hands.

State Police were called to the scene because the incident was first reported as suspicious, involving another 14-year-old boy.

State Police from the Grantsville detachment are investigating the incident, which appears accidental in nature.

Both boys were visiting a residence on Nicut Road.

Sources told the Herald they were helping gather fire wood when some gasoline was spilled on the 16-year-olds clothing.

Reportedly, the 14-year-old was standing a few feet away and struck a lighter, the gas fumes igniting the victims clothing. Other boys at the scene removed the victims clothing.

Emergency services responded to the scene at 10:45 a.m. on Nicut Road, five miles from State Rt. 16 at Orma.
