CENTURY ALUMINUM RETIREES HAVE LOST HEALTH INSURANCE

(11/05/2010)
Hundreds of regional families who had an employee working for Century Aluminum in Ravenswood got some bad news this week.

A letter to retirees announced: " Due to the continued curtailment costs of the Ravenswood operations, we regret to inform you that your Retiree Health Benefits Program provided by Century Aluminum of West Virginia, Inc. will cease on December 31, 2010."

Over 400 Century Aluminum retirees and their dependents will lose medical and prescription drug coverage, part of their promised retirement package.

Thousands of West Virginia retirees have lost not only their health benefits, but many have lost their company retirement benefits too.

The plant in Ravenswood closed in 2009, laying off hundreds of workers.
