Daniel Ray Mayes, 64 - Tariff

Daniel Ray Mayes, 64, of Tariff, West Virginia, died October 31, 2010, at home. He has passed peacefully from our earthly home and is now awaiting his loved ones with open arms, a beautiful smile, and everlasting love.

Daniel was a 1964 graduate of Collins High School in Oak Hill, WV. He proudly served his country as a Navy Communications Yeoman. He followed his military service as an inspector for the WV Department of Highways. He was a school bus driver for Roane County Schools until July 1, 2002.

Daniel enjoyed our family farm in Roane County. He was a gentle man of great compassion with a heart that loved and cherished everyone he knew.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Juanita Hensley Lutz Mayes; his two stepchildren George and Kirsten Lutz; and his two foster children Amanda Mitchum and her son Xavier and Mariah Marling-Kidd and her husband, Joshua Kidd, and their child, Destiny Kidd, age 2.

Daniel's extended family includes his sister and her husband, Carolyn and Tom Kuhn, his nieces and their families, Patrice and Frank Romage, with their daughters Marchelle and Heather; Shanna Toler and her daughter Mikaela Toler, all of Oak Hill, WV.

His mother-in-law Mary Hensley, and brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Cheryl Nichols, all of Wallback, WV; his nieces and nephews, Stephen and Kate Hensley and Amy and Jason Boggs.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Lodie (Hundley) Mayes.

Services will be held Thursday, Nov. 4th, at the Newton Baptist Church on Hollywood Road, Newton, WV. Visitation hours will be 4-6 p.m. with services beginning at 6 p.m.

Flowers may be sent to the John H. Taylor Funeral Home in Spencer, WV.
