Frank Gainer, 93 - Grantsville

Frank Gainer was born September 13, 1917 in Grantsville, West Virginia, to Okey and Ester Ann Gainer.

He began employment with Hope Gas Company in Grantsville in 1938. He married Vesta Burroughs in 1939. Frank was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served his country in the South Pacific Theater on LST Troop Transporter. He was sent home for his father's funeral in 1945 and was discharged as the war ended.

He resumed working for Hope Gas until his retirement in 1975. He spent his life in and around Grantsville and became a member of the Rush Run Baptist Church where he served on several committees and drove the church bus until 1998.

Frank enjoyed being with people, especially later in life at The Senior Center in Grantsville. He also liked bowling, hunting, fishing and farming.

He is survived by a sister, Tootsie Blankenship of Grantsville; two sons, James O. Gainer (Sharon) of Parkersburg and Thurl J. Gainer (Judy) of Harrisville; five grandchildren, James O. Gainer II of Grantsville, Shellie Gainer (Lance) of Newport Beach, California, Mark Gainer (Suzanne) of Orient, Ohio, Thurl J. Gainer, Jr. (Cathy) of Dublin, Ohio, and Staci Goff (Scot) of Harrisville; three great grandchildren, Mitchel and Alex A. Gainer of Dublin, Ohio, and Wyatt Goff of Harrisville.

He was preceded in death by four infant siblings; five sisters, Euthal Gainer of Grantsville, Gladys Bower of Parkersburg, Louise Rusniek of Steubenville, Ohio, Claire Smith of Caldwell, Ohio, and Dutch Jarvis of Grantsville; and two brothers, George of Steubenville and Harry of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Arrangements are being handled by Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday with viewing one hour prior to services and 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers he would prefer donations to the American Cancer Society or Rush Run Baptist Church, Stumptown, WV. Interment will be at Collins Cemetery, Stumptown, beside his spouse of 67 years.
