ARREST MADE IN 2009 FAYETTE CO. HUNTING FATALITY

Beckley, W.Va. - A Rainelle man has been arrested and charged with the 2009 shooting death of a Greenbrier County man in a hunting related incident. An extensive investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and the West Virginia State Police resulted in the arrest on Monday, according to DNR Sgt. M.A. Sylvester.

Jerry Lee Scarles was charged in Greenbrier County Magistrate Court with negligent killing of another person while hunting, a misdemeanor.

The incident occurred in October 2009, when 50-year old Clarence Stroud of Greenbrier County was found shot to death in the woods near Springdale in Fayette County. He had been hit with a spray of shotgun pellets in the face and chest.

Scarles was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond while awaiting trial.
