CALHOUN BANK ROBBER REPORTEDLY ARRESTED IN TEXAS

(10/26/2010)
Accused Calhoun bank robber Richard "Ricky" Vance,21, has reportedly been arrested in Texas.

A warrant had been issued for his arrest after an investigation by the West Virginia State Police in Grantsville.

State Police have not confirmed the arrest, but reports indicate efforts are being made to extradited him back to Calhoun.

A criminal complaint charged Vance with 1st degree armed robbery and the theft of an ATV from a Walnut area residence. The ATV has yet to be recovered.

Vance allegedly went to the Calhoun Bank at Arnoldsburg on an ATV and held-up the establishment on September 13 with a hunting knife.

Authorities have yet to release the amount of money taken.

Vance, a Lincoln County native, had been living in the Orma area on Nicut Road and was familiar to the Calhoun community.

Sgt. O. S. Starsick of the Grantsville Detachment said, "We still have not ruled out other individuals that could have been part of the robbery, or some of them benefiting from the robbery."

Vance has a criminal record. Spencer Newspapers reported that Vance was on probation in Roane County connected to a burglary.

Court records say Vance was placed on three years probation last January after pleading guilty to receiving stolen property.

Vance and two others were originally charged with burglary, grand larceny and conspiracy in a June, 2008 theft from the Parkersburg Rd. residence of Don Smith.

At that time, police said painters working at the Smith home left a back door open that thieves used to gain entry to the dwelling, stealing three guns, collectible coins, a safe and ten bottles of liquor.

Judge David W. Nibert ordered Vance to attend classes at a day reporting center with weekly substance abuse counseling sessions.

He was also ordered to pay the victim of the crime $2,200 for restitution.

It was the second robbery at the Arnoldsburg branch bank in less than two years, the robberies being the first such incidents in Calhoun County in over 100 years.
