By Kelley Houchin Calhoun High School Lady Red Devils hosted Braxton County on Tuesday, October 12. The JV lost to Braxton 25-23, 25-15. Chelsea Hicks led the team in service points with 8 points, 4 aces; followed by Stephanie Hall 7 points, Shayla Arnold 3 points, 1 ace; Autumn Blair 2 points, 1 ace; Megan Barton 2 points, 1 ace; and Amanda Carter 2 points. Setting: Hicks 32/37, 5 assists. Hitting: Hall 7/9, Carter 7/8, 1 kill; Arnold 11/15, 2 kills; Cain 4/6, 1 kill; Blair 3/4, 1 kill. The Varsity defeated Braxton 25-17, 25-20, 25-22. Rochelle Gerwig led the team in service points with 15 points, 3 aces; followed by Jordan Mace with 10 points, 5 aces; Karissa Reip 8 points, Michelle Hall 4 points, 2 aces; Amber Wilford 4 points, 2 aces and Ashley Houchin 4 points. Setting: Houchin 91/93, 28 assists. Hitting: Wilford 31/38, 11 kills; Samantha Church 14/14, 6 kills; Gerwig 11/12, 4 kills; Reip 11/14, 4 kills; Mace 9/13, 3 kills. Blocks: Wilford 2; Digs: Kenzie Laughlin 4, Reip 4, Gerwig 4, Mace 3, Houchin 3, Wilford 2. The CHS Varsity will travel to Charleston on Saturday, October 16 to play in the Irish Invitational hosted by Charleston Catholic. Senior night for the CHS Lady Red Devils will be Tuesday, October 19 when Calhoun hosts a varsity quad with Williamstown, Ravenswood and Clay County for their last home match of the season. Senior night recognition will begin at 5:50 p.m. with play immediately following.
