WV-PSC ORDERS CONSUMER RATES REDUCED FOR NATURAL GAS

(10/14/2010)
Natural gas utility rates will drop Nov. 1 based on orders just issued by the WV Public Service Commission.

The commission issued recommended decisions reducing purchased gas rates for the state's largest natural gas utilities, Mountaineer Gas Co. and Dominion Hope, as well as 14 smaller gas providers.

The decisions are part of the "truing up" that gas utilities conduct once and sometimes twice each year with the PSC.

Lower purchase prices for natural gas by the outfits are passed to consumers.

Natural gas prices have dropped to 2002-03 costs, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Mountaineer and Dominion's residential customers, using an average of 13 thousand cubic feet (Mcf) of gas during the colder months will see their monthly bills drop in the range of $4 to $13.
