Calhoun passed for three touchdowns but it was not enough to keep St. Marys from celebrating its homecoming with a 45-22 victory Friday night.

The loss dropped Calhoun to 1-6 on the season while the 15th-ranked Blue Devils improved its record to 4-2.

Calhoun starting quarterback Tyler Bennett had a couple of touchdown passes - one to Dillon Mefford and one to Nathan Cosgrove. Bennett completed seven of his 13 passes for 166 yards. He got Calhoun on the board and a 6-0 lead when he hit Mefford for a 75-yard score.

Unfortunately after that St. Marys racked up 39 straight points before Calhoun scored near the end of the second quarter on a drive that was all Bennett and Cosgrove. On the drive Bennett hit Cosgrove with a 53-yard pass and finished it off with a 12-yard touchdown pass.

Freshman Logan Moore quarterbacked Calhoun's last scoring drive which he capped off with a 20-yard scoring pass to Cosgrove.

Overall Calhoun was 8-14-3 for 186 yards passing.

Mefford led Calhoun in receiving with 89 yards on a pair of receptions while Cosgrove added 79 and Clark 21.

The Calhoun running game was, at times, pretty good too.

Bronson Clark led Calhoun with 92 yards on 14 carries while Bennett added 46 yards on 19 carries.

One of the big surprises of the game came in the fourth quarter when Cameron Litviak started to punt from in the Calhoun end zone but instead brought the ball and galloped to the 41 yard line before being pulled down.

Calhoun returns to action Friday night when it entertains Roane County, 5-1 and ranked eighth among Class AA schools.
