Raymond Smith, 87 - Sand Fork

Raymond Smith age 87 of Joes Run Rd, Burnsville (Sand Fork Community Gilmer County) West Virginia, went to be with the Lord at 2:40 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2010 in Glenville Care and Rehabilitation Center, Glenville following a short illness.

He was born April 13, 1923 at Wilsonburg, Harrison County the son of the late Thomas and Ada Waggoner Smith.

An Army veteran of WWII, Raymond was a retired coal miner and a Baptist by faith. His passions were NASCAR, hunting and fishing.

In 1968 he was married to Mary Stalnaker Smith who survives at their Joes Run home.

Also surviving are 8 children, George Smith (Gail) of Yorkshire, England; Steve Greathouse (Darlene) of Glenville; Gilberta Kaswalski (Ronald) of Elyria OH; Bonnie Brown of Burnsville; Randy Greathouse (Joyce) of Thomasville NC; Glen Greathouse (Cynthia) of Sand Fork and Shelia Miller of Cleveland OH; 7 grandchildren, Mindi Greathouse, Angela Davis, Shelly Greathouse, Eric Greathouse, Holly Greathouse, Tracie Facemier and B.J. Brown; 2 sisters, Delores Moore and Goldine McKinley both of Harrison County along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Raymond was preceded in death by his first wife Roxie Stump Smith and daughter Debbie Smith; one brother, Clark Smith and 4 sisters, Thelma Payner, Velma McNemar, Edna Todd and Vellie Scott.

Funeral services will be held at the Sand Fork Church at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 3, 2010 with Rev. Phil Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the McHenry II Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Church.

Ellyson Mortuary, Inc. is assisting the family of Raymond Smith with arrangements.
