There will be a presentation by Dr. Douglas La Follette, Wisconsin Secretary of State on Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at 7 p.m. at West Virginia University at Parkersburg, West Virginia. The presentation will be in the Caperton Center Room, 103.

Dr. La Follette is a graduate o Marietta College and holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University. He is a Phi Beta Kappa and a member of several scientific honorary societies. He has also been a state senator for the state of Wisconsin and served on the Faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

Dr. La Follette has many awards to his credit including an Environmental Quality Award from the Environmental Protection Agency, an Environmental Advocate of the year award form the Clean Water Action Council, and an Environmental Excellence Award from the Midwest renewable Energy Association. He is the founder and Director of the Wisconsin Environmental Decade and helped organize the original Earth Day in 1970.

I believe that public officials, scientist, and scholars hold a special responsibility in today's world of dwindling resources, environmental crises, and an uncertain economy. WE must speak out on the impact of science and technology on society.
