Negligent homicide charges have been filed against 18-year-old Melvin H. Shaffer of Stumptown in the vehicular death of Big Bend resident Rodney Wagoner.

Wagoner was killed in a head-on collision of trucks on March 24 on Route 5 near Big Bend.

State Police have also filed charges against Shaffer for improper passing and reckless driving.

Shaffer, who is recuperating, has been arrested and released on $5000 bond. He will enter a plea in Calhoun magistrate court on April 22.

Brain Wagoner, 20, driver of the truck in which his father was killed, is on the mend, according to a family spokesperson. He was listed in critical condition for several days following the wreck.

Local emergency workers said the collision was among the worst they have witnessed in several years.

No charges have been filed in a March 17 accident which killed a Calhoun woman.
