Juanita M. Runnion, 90 - Spencer

Juanita M. Runnion, 90, of Spencer, West Virginia, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg, WV, after a sudden illness.

She was born June 4, 1920, in Walton, West Virginia, the youngest daughter of the late George William and Sevilla Moore Marks.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alburn "Abe" Runnion in 1997.

Survivors include her daughters, Sherrell Wigal and her husband Ron, of Parkersburg, Lois Roberts and her husband, Jerald of Sod, Stephanie Roberts and her son, Kennedy, of Spencer; brother, Leslie Marks of Walton; seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Runnion graduated from Walton High School in 1938 and went on to graduate from both Fairmont State College and Glenville State College.

She was a retired teacher, having taught in Roane County, West Virginia, for 40 years, beginning her career in the one-room Osage School. In 1967, she moved to Spencer Elementary School, until her retirement in 1980. She was an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church, serving as a Lay Speaker, church leader, and Sunday school teacher. She had, in fact, during her lifetime taught Sunday school for over 70 years.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, September 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Michael Ludle officiating. Burial will follow in the Eventide Cemetery, Spencer. Visitation begins at noon on Sunday until just prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to either the Roane County Public Library in Spencer, or St. John's United Methodist Church also in Spencer, WV.
