The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources reports that James Brooks of Summers County now holds the state record for a striped bass catch.

The new record catch weighs in at 47.5 pounds and is 47.16 inches long.

Brooks caught the record setting fish trolling on September 3rd at Bluestone Lake using a crank bait on 8 lb test line. The epic battle between man and fish lasted for forty minutes before being able to land the fish in his boat.

The fish broke the former state record for weight by more than 16 pounds and 6 inches in length.
