VENUE CHANGE SOUGHT IN RITCHIE TROOPER INJURY CASE

(09/03/2010)
Attorney Bill Merriman is asking for a change of venue for a Ritchie County man accused of hitting a West Virginia State Police trooper with his vehicle, charged with DUI.

Merriman says says Jesse Parsons can't get a fair trial in Ritchie County.

Merriman is seeking to move the Parsons' trial to another county.

Parsons, a resident of Macfarlan, is charged with driving under the influence causing bodily injury to Cpl. Andy Pringle.

Cpl. Pringle received critical injuries last April, being struck while making a traffic stop on Rt. 47. Pringle has been making a slow recovery.

Merriman says community support for the Pringle family could prejudice a jury against Parsons, and is also asking the Ritchie prosecutor be disqualified.
